“Aadujeevitham”

This survival drama in Malayalam is not for timid “Aadujeevitham.” It tells the narrative of Najeeb Muhammad, a Malayali immigrant who goes to Saudi Arabia in search of a better life but ends up as a goatherd, and stars the multi-talented Prithviraj Sukumaran in the major role. The narrative follows his valiant flight from an oppressive and violent life. One of the biggest Malayalam hits of the year is now the movie.

Amala Paul, Jimmy Jean Louis, and Shobha Mohan are also featured in important parts of “Aadujeevitham.” In August, it will make its premiere on Disney+Hotstar.

“Kalki, 2898 AD”

This Prabhas film, released on June 27, has dominated the box office. The global gross for the Nag Ashwin film has surpassed $100 million. The epic sci-fi fantasy is breaking records left, right, and centre on home soil as well. It has surpassed the Rs 500 crore milestone in India and is deemed a huge hit.

Although the epic opus’s OTT release date is yet unknown, streaming behemoth Amazon Prime Video has acquired the film, which will likely make a splash this September.

The film also has Bollywood celebrities Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone making their Telugu debuts. Veteran Tamil actor Kamal Haasan plays the adversary in it as well. The film is set in a dystopian future and features many allusions to and characters from the Hindu epic “Mahabharata.”

“Turbo”

This Malayalam action comedy, starring Mammootty, will debut on Sony LIV on July 12. The film, directed by Vysakh, centres on Aruvipurathu Jose, also known as Turbo, a feisty jeep driver who, while seeking revenge for the death of his comrade Jerry, finds himself caught in a crooked political network. Anjana Jayaparaksh, Raj B. Shetty, and Shabareesh Varma also play important roles in the film.

“Maharaja”

A toast to the king: fasten your seat belts! July 19 is when “Maharaja” will debut on YouTube. In addition to the talented Vijay Sethupathi at the forefront, this Nithilan Swaminathan-directed Tamil action thriller also stars filmmakers Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, Natarajan Subramaniam, Aruldoss, and others.

Fans of the 2008 action picture “Taken”—yes, the one starring Liam Neeson—will undoubtedly have flashbacks of the film. The movie’s protagonist is Maharaja, a barber, who embarks on an almost impossible quest to save a —wait for it— trashcan! The dustbin, which goes by the name “Lakshmi,” is regarded as a representation of his family’s prosperity. More than Rs 100 crore was made at the box office by this oddball action drama.
