The film was produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films. the film based on the life of Maratha King Sambhaji, played by Vicky Kaushal. Principal photography for the film is all set to begin in October. The second Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire, Sambhaji Maharaj, commonly known as Shambhuraje, ruled from 1681 to 1689 and is the subject of the movie. Shivaji, the Maratha Empire’s founder, had him as his eldest son.

Shivrayancha Chhava is a visually grand portrayal of the Maratha empire’s glorious era, beginning with the coronation of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. This marks the second cinematic adaptation of this legendary figure in a short span. The narrative explores the struggle against Emperor Aurangzeb, focusing on the atrocities committed by Kakar Khan, who imposes the oppressive Jizya tax. In response, Sambhaji leads the Maratha forces against the Mughal stronghold of Burhanpur, showcasing both valour and strategy.

The film successfully recreates the opulence of the Maratha and Mughal courts, complete with elaborate costumes and majestic production design. Digpal Lanjekar, known for his expertise in the historical action genre, directs the movie with finesse. While the action sequences and stunts stand out, thanks to Bhushan Patil’s strong performance as Sambhaji, the story falters in depth.

Character introductions and world-building are well executed, and the music and dance numbers enhance the immersive experience. However, historical accuracy takes a backseat, with the narrative favouring clear villains over nuanced political intrigue. Despite the impressive visuals and action, the story only scratches the surface of Sambhaji’s complex life. Ultimately, Shivrayancha Chhava is best enjoyed as a spectacle of action rather than a detailed historical account.
